On the "Filipino admiration" part:

OP and I seem to share the notion that the general Filipino public are not particularly familiar, if not fond, of liberal ideas such as human rights and "positivist criminology." In other words, OP seems to say (and I agree) that Filipinos are more inclined towards authoritarianism, at least in terms of public safety and justice.

It makes one think; what drives this inclination? Is it ignorance or apathy? Or misunderstanding? That assumes that liberalism is the default and authoritarianism is deviance. Is it cultural or social? Can we find similarities of authoritarian leanings in other cultures/settings or is our authoritarian proudly Pinoy?
